About Coir

Coir is the name given to the fibrous material extracted from the middle layer of coconut fruit.Mature coir fibres consist of thick walls made of cellulose and lignin, makes it more durable than other natural fiber.In the first step of coir making, husks from the coconut fruit is soaked in water to soften them.Long fibres are extracted and used for making rope and mat. The cellulose content of dried coconut fiber is more and this makes coir much stronger and less flexible. Coir can be used for making wide range of products such as Carpets and Rugs, Coir Tiles, Coir Pith, mats, Yarn, Mattings etc.
